The beautiful Joan Smalls covers W magazine's July cover issue. Inside the pages of W, the editorial called "Super Modern, Super Models" is a classic short in studio shot by famed photographer Steven Meisel. “I just have something to prove...I know I’m representing a group—black, Latin, whatever you want to put me with—and I want to show that they are beautiful the way they are. I think that’s really important for our youth to see. Fashion is part of our culture...And it’s about more than just a pretty dress.” Joan tells W magazine. 

Joan credits her string of success to Givenchy's Creative Director Riccardo Tisci saying, “When I first started it never picked up for me, doing shows." But after Riccardo booked her for Givenchy in 2010, she says, “He saw my potential. And it changed people’s perspective.”
