Honey Isn’t Just for Tea: Color me a Golden Blonde!

jessica biel blonde ombre

Blondes have more fun, right? What if you’re a natural brunette and couldn’t imagine anything other than brown hair on your head? Being a brunette shouldn’t make you feel limited with changing your hair color. Summertime is the best time to start lightening your hair; whether if it’s adding some golden balayage highlights or doing a little ombre for sun kissed ends. The best way to pull off these looks is keeping the term “low-maintenance color” at the tip of your tongue when chatting with your colorist.

Keeping your natural color at the root will allow for months to go by without ever seeing a band of dark re-growth. If you’re taking the plunge into the trend-setting, ombre technique, seek a colorist who blends the tones well so you don’t have your hair chopped off into a blonde abyss. Many women with dark hair think that they can’t go very light which inturn leave them with coppery highlights. Brassy highlights are never a hair colour one should seek. “That’s one of the biggest color mistakes I see. Brassy and orange hair just looks bad.” said Kyle White of Oscar Blandi Salon.

White has tended the tresses of tons of A-list celebrities. The man responsible for the vibrancy of Mariah Carey’s stunning coif, Kate Winslet and Jessica Alba; he recommends basing new hair color off of “4 elements: Skin tone, eye color, time of year and lifestyle”. Lighter eyed people can pull off much lighter hues in retrospect with dark eyes; however golden colors look vibrant and fresh no matter your eye color! It’s a great pop for new summer hair. Take advantage of your sunny summer with a sun-kissed blonde.

“When hair is too dark it becomes flat. It’s like putting a picture in a dark frame, you see every detail of the photo, every bag, line, etc. Then imagine putting the picture in a light frame, it softens the picture and everything around it.” says color expert, White. “That’s what you want to do with your hair color.” So before thinking that it’s okay to box color your dark brown hair, think about softening up the beautiful “picture” that surrounds your face and create a masterpiece!

Once your all set with color, consider a great shampoo and deep conditioner! Oscar Blandi recently released the Dio Di Jasmine collection with natural botanicals to repair and protect color treated hair while taming unruly frizz.
